Promoting NF Research

Since our inception NF, Inc. NE has awarded over $2 million to clinicians and scientists who are dedicated to studying NF and treating patients (see list of recipients below). Using a Peer Review Grant Process we provide support to NF clinics and researchers who may subsequently apply for larger grants from the US Army NF Research Program or the National Institutes of Health.

In partnership with the National NF Coalition, we work with congressional representatives on both a local and national level to encourage continued and increased federal funding of NF research. Karen Peluso, NF, Inc. Northeast Executive Director, has submitted testimony about NF research to the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, and the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education (see 2007 House HHS below.)

However, due to budget cuts and the war in Iraq we are in danger of losing the DOD’s NF research program and appropriations are being cut yearly. In FY2005 the DOD funding for NF was $25 million, and now the FY2008 appropriation is down to $8 million. Please contact your Senators and Representative and tell them how important NF research is to you. A sample letter and link to find your elected officials is below.
